Raven

Raven is adopted.

Raven is an 18 month old entire bitch.

She is excited to be out and about and will run and run, definitely suit an active home that does cani-cross or just likes to run with their dogs.

If you have a very large garden she will be just as happy bombing around to let her hair down.

Raven

Due to her excitement about being out she goes deaf and has no recall so she cannot be let off the lead unless she is in a secure field and or her recall training has been nailed.

Her lead walking needs work as she cannot keep herself contained due to excitement. She is fine with other dogs and has free run with both dogs and bitches with no issues.

Raven

If she was to live with another dog they would have to be tolerant of her as she is so excitable.

She loves cuddles and will happily snuggle onto your lap

Here is a snippet from our assessor about her

“Raven has an excellent temperament but does need some training. There were no negative or aggressive reactions at all. She is a typical excitable young dog and does jump up a little when excited. Her focus and engagement with people are currently poor when outdoors – she just wants to run. I feel that once she is having regular free running, her behaviour and demeanour will improve. She needs a suitable home where she will be able to burn off her energy and then I feel that she will be become more motivated for training. She has obviously had very little training but will be more than capable of learning new skills and tasks. She is a lovely dog and is very much a blank page but with some work, will be a lovely, fun pet.”

Raven’s Assessment

Kennel behaviour

Raven was very excited to leave the kennel block. She had her lead on with no problem but pulled strongly to get to the paddock. She did bark at other dogs who were barking in adjacent kennels but did not react to any other dogs that she encountered during our assessment. On returning to the kennel, she still pulled strongly on the lead.

Handling

Raven was very keen to be off lead and just wanted to run around the paddock. She did not show much interest in us at first and did not even acknowledge us. She does not appear to know her name. She did start to approach us playfully and did jump up on occasions.
I touched her feet, hindquarters, head, ears, tummy, tail and she was not concerned about my handling of her. I knocked into her to test for any reaction but there was none. She was not interested in having a fuss, she just wanted to run around.

Sociability

There were no negative reactions from Raven and she is of good temperament. She was very excited and playful but was happy to just run around the arena. She did engage to a degree and did take some treats although she did not seem too motivated by them. She did occasionally respond to a Sit cue but does not appear to have received much training and has limited obedience.
She did show some interest in playing with a ball and a tug toy but was soon bored. She did recall on one occasion to the tug toy so I think that this would be good reward to use for recall training.
There were no fearful reactions at all from Raven.

Arousal/Reactivity

Please give details of reactivity on a scale of 1 to 5 (where 1 = low & 5 = high)
Reactivity – 1
Raven barked a little at dogs barking in adjacent kennels but showed no reactivity once out of the kennel block. She did not react to anything in her environment.

Possession

Raven showed some interest in toys but was more interested in free running than in playing with us with toys. She is soft mouthed and does not snatch at anything. I think that once she starts to engage more with people, she will enjoy playing with toys.
