Adoption Application

Thank you for thinking about giving a Dobermann a home — it means a lot. This form helps us match the right dog with the right family.

There are no wrong answers and no judgement; some of our happiest adopters were first-time owners. It takes about 10–15 minutes and there are 8 short sections. If a question doesn’t apply to you, just say so.

Once you’ve applied, we’ll be in touch for a friendly chat and, later, a home visit.

1. About you

So we can get in touch.

2. The dog you’re hoping for

Tell us who you’re looking for so we can find your match. Most of this is optional — “no preference” is a perfectly good answer.

Are you looking to adopt or to foster?
For a safe match, does your new dog need to be… (tick any that apply)

We’ll always be honest about what each dog can offer. Dogs who’ve spent a while in kennels sometimes need their house-training refreshed, so a little patience helps.

3. Your experience with dogs

First-time owners are welcome — this just helps us support you well.

Have you owned a dog before?

4. Your home & garden

A little about where your new dog would live.

Do you own or rent your home?
Do you have your landlord’s or co-owner’s permission to keep a dog?
Is your garden fully enclosed with fencing at least 6ft high and secure gates?

5. Your household

This helps us pick a dog who’ll settle happily with everyone at home.

Does anyone elderly or frail live at the property?
Does anyone in the household have dog allergies?
Are any new babies planned?

6. Other pets

So we can make sure everyone gets along.

Do you have any other dogs at home?

7. Daily life & routine

Dobermanns are people-loving, high-energy dogs — this helps us match their needs to your day.

8. Costs & commitment

A Dobermann is a big, loving commitment. This just checks you’ve thought the practical side through.

Costs including food, treats, toys and routine care average around £100 per month plus insurance.

You will be responsible for all medical costs after adoption (except by prior written agreement for pre-existing conditions). It is a requirement of adoption that you take out insurance including medical cover. We recommend Agria insurance.

If you adopt a young dog, you agree to spay/neuter when they’re old enough. DRU contributes £200 (female) / £150 (male) towards this cost.

Finally

Thank you. We read every application and will be in touch.
