Rocco is a 3 year old castrated male.
Rocco was rehomed, but unfortunately had to be returned because he did not get along with the cat.
He has lived with bitches with no issues and has played happily with our resident ladies.
He does not like males coming into his personal space but will walk nicely on the lead next to other males with no reaction.
He has lived with children from 3 years and upwards but due to his size we are saying from 8 upwards.
Rocco will make a great friend, if you are interested in him, please fill out an application form.
Rocco’s Assessment
Kennel behaviour
Rocco was excited to leave his kennel and was jumping up slightly when having his lead on. He did sit with some encouragement. Was excited on leaving the kennel but did not react to the other dogs who were barking.
Handling
No issues whatsoever with handling, Rocco is very pro social and seeks out affection and touch.
Rocco does pull on the lead but I believe this will be something that will improve with consistent positive training. Walked better on the way back to his kennel. Rocco appears to have good recall when within the secure area. This would need to be tested further in a secure area.
Sociability
Rocco was relaxed on meeting me (a stranger). Was pro social with male trustee as well. No reaction to passing dogs who were barking at the gate. No fear or reaction shown.
Arousal/Reactivity
Please give details of reactivity on a scale of 1 to 5 (where 1 = low & 5 = high)
Reactivity – 2
Rocco shows zero response to traffic passing. Did bark at some cyclists but unsure if it was the voices through the hedge that he alert barked at.
Rocco became excited when seeing a dog passing the paddock but no malice and quickly calmed from it.
Rocco really enjoyed playing with a tug and ball in the paddock. He quickly surrendered and did not snatch the toys back! Excited by treats initially and was jumping up to get to the treat bag and pocket but did calm quickly and took treats well, sitting and lying down to be rewarded
Possession
Rocco surrenders toys willingly and will exchange for a treat. Enjoys tugging and sometimes reluctant to drop but can be encouraged to!
Comments
Rocco has a good level of basic training and is a biddable young dog who is willing to work for a reward. He does jump up at people through excitement but does sit when told in this situation.
A fun loving young dog who will thrive off further training and mental stimulation.
