Meet Roni

Roni is an entire male around 10 to 11 years old.

He has scar tissue in his right ear and around his nose and worn teeth, but neither bother him. He has arthritis in some joints, but he is on supplements and doing well. He also has a tumor on one of his testes which our vet has advised to leave alone, just to monitor him, but for the moment he is a very happy chap.

He is full of life and currently being cared for in a lovely foster home.

He is a lovely friendly dog who loves company and cuddles.

He has not reacted to any dogs so we think he will be ok living with a spayed bitch.

DRUE will cover all his medical expenses for the conditions we are aware of, apart from which nothing else was found on his vet check.

If you feel you can offer Roni a home then please fill out an application.

Roni’s Assessment

Kennel behaviour

Roni was calm in his kennel whilst having lead put on and exited calmly. Walked past other kennel dogs with no issues.

Handling

Roni walked calmly with no pulling on a standard lead and collar. Walked past people and dogs remaining neutral in his behaviour.

Happy to be handled everywhere and is a pro social dog who seeks physical contact. Is however happy to walk away if interaction isn’t forthcoming from humans. Roni did respond to his name and recall cue in the main. He was slow to respond at times when sniffing. Would need to be tested in a larger secure area before recall was fully trusted.

Sociability

Roni walked with a male(known to him) and myself (stranger)  to the secure paddock with no issues. He passed dogs who were barking behind a gate and calmly acknowledged them. No anxiety or hostility noted.

Arousal/Reactivity

Please give details of reactivity on a scale of 1 to 5 (where 1 = low & 5 = high)
Reactivity – 1

Roni was excited by treats but not pushy, didn’t attempt to steal them and took them gently from the hand.

No interest shown in a ball or tug but no adverse behaviours noted either. Traffic passed and he acknowledged it but no further response.

Possession

Roni’s prime motivator is treats but he is well controlled around them, takes them gently and isn’t pushy for more. Didn’t steal treats when they were at his level, instead offered his paw to get a treat given to him.

Comments

Roni is a gentleman. He is calm and composed in his demeanour and is gentle and controlled in his approach to people and treats. He enjoys attention from humans and seeks this out but is also willing to walk off if attention isn’t forthcoming. His rear end is clearly weak and he did stumble a couple of times but is happy to be handled all over.
