Four-year-old Skye came into our care in January after her previous owner tragically became homeless. While she was initially very frightened, the combination of gentle handling and expert guidance from a brilliant behaviorist has allowed her true personality to begin to shine.
A Bright and Affectionate Companion
Skye is a clever girl who forms deep, loyal bonds once she feels safe. She is eager to learn and already boasts an impressive repertoire of commands, including sit, wait, down, and spin. She thrives on interactive activities and, once she trusts you, is wonderfully affectionate.
Understanding Her World
Because of her history, Skye views the world with a bit of caution and needs a family prepared for her specific needs:
- Outdoor Confidence: Skye is currently quite skittish and hypervigilant outside. Her behaviorist notes: “Skye remains nervous outside the yard; she is often too overwhelmed to take treats and stays on high alert. A quiet home with a garden is essential to give her the space to settle before facing the wider world.”
- Other Pets: Skye has lived with dogs before. While she can be reactive toward unfamiliar dogs, she could potentially live with a steady, calm male dog following very careful, well-managed introductions. She is not suitable for a home with cats.
- Home Environment: Skye requires an adult-only home (no children) in a quiet area.
The Ideal Sanctuary
Skye’s “forever” home needs to be a peaceful retreat. Her perfect match will have:
- A Secure Space: A large, securely fenced garden where she can play and progress at her own pace without pressure.
- Patience & Experience: Owners who understand that building confidence takes time and who are committed to continuing her positive reinforcement journey.
Could you be Skye’s hero?
Watching Skye blossom from a frightened soul into a happy, confident dog will be an incredibly rewarding experience for the right person. If you have the quiet environment and the heart to help Skye grow, we would love to hear from you.
