Our adoption criteria
Adopting a rescue Dobermann is one of the most rewarding decisions you will ever make — but it is also a big responsibility. Every dog we rehome has already experienced loss, and we owe it to them to ensure their next home is truly their last.
Below you will find the key criteria we use to match our dogs with the right families. These aren’t rigid rules, but they reflect what is best for the dogs — and for you.
A Stable, Loving Home
We look for adopters who can provide a consistent, loving, and safe environment. What matters most is your ability to meet a Dobermann’s needs for companionship, structure, and comfort.
Age & Household Requirements
- Applicants must be 21 or older (exceptions considered case-by-case).
- All members of the household must be in agreement about adopting.
- We may not place some dogs in homes with young children, due to size and energy levels.
Experience with Large or Working Breeds
Dobermanns are intelligent, loyal, and energetic — and they thrive in homes that understand them. Previous experience with Dobermanns or similar breeds is a big plus, but we’ll guide first-time adopters ready to learn.
Time & Commitment
These dogs crave connection. We do not rehome dogs to homes where they will be left alone for extended hours every day. Ideally, adopters should have flexible schedules or arrangements in place for companionship, walks, and engagement.
Secure Outdoor Space
We only rehome to homes with secure, private gardens. Dobermanns are active, intelligent dogs who benefit enormously from having safe outdoor access where they can stretch, play, and relax.
The garden must be fully enclosed with dog-proof fencing — height and security will be discussed during your home check.
Other Pets in the Home
Some of our Dobermanns adore other dogs. Others need to be the only pet. We assess each match carefully based on your current pets and the temperament of the Dobermann in question.
Ability to Provide Vet Care
Adopters must be prepared for the costs of lifelong care, including insurance, regular check-ups, and any ongoing medical needs.
Willingness to Be Matched
We do not operate on a first-come, first-served basis. Instead, we match each Dobermann to the home that best suits their personality, history, and needs. This helps ensure long-term success and fewer heartbreaks for everyone.
A Heart Open to Healing
Many of our dogs have endured neglect, abandonment, or trauma. They may need time, patience, and gentle encouragement to trust again. We’re looking for adopters with compassion and resilience.
