Thriving on Adventure and Play
- Dexter thrives on long walks where he can stretch his legs, especially in open fields where he loves to explore, chase birds, and enjoy life to the fullest.
- Dexter is social and playful with the dogs he knows. He has enjoyed off-lead time and friendly interactions with both a Vizsla and a Spaniel, showing zero aggression in these scenarios.
- His recall is generally good and improving all the time; he comes back well, but like many active dogs, he needs continued guidance to manage distractions.
Understanding His Needs
- Lead Reactivity: While Dexter is great with known dogs off-lead, he can be reactive on the lead around unfamiliar dogs. He feels particularly nervous when small dogs rush toward him. This is simply a matter of nerves, and with patience, understanding, and consistent positive training, this area will continue to improve.
- Building Confidence: Dexter has had a difficult past that has left him a little nervous. However, he is incredibly brave and curious! He has been making great progress, enjoying trips into town and even loving regular visits to a friend’s shop, proving he is ready to learn that the world is a safe place.
