Dennis

Dennis arrived with us from the pound on 12 August after being found as a stray. He was in a dreadful condition: underweight, flea-ridden, suffering from sore skin and hair loss, and understandably frightened. As he came in as a stray, we do not know his age or background, and he is currently entire.

Nearly four weeks later, Dennis has made wonderful progress. With treatment, patience, and kindness from the kennel team, he has gained weight, his sores have healed, and his confidence has grown.

Dennis can be a very sweet boy who enjoys fuss, attention, and back scritches. Once he feels comfortable with someone, his playful side begins to show, and he may even offer the Dobermann lean.

He can still be wary of strangers, but he settles once he feels safe. Building his trust and confidence is important, and he responds best to calm, consistent handling without too much stimulation.

When Dennis becomes over-aroused, he can jump up and grab at clothing. He does not do this with everyone, and calm, firm guidance helps him stop. For this reason, he will need someone experienced, kind, patient, and confident in setting boundaries.

Dennis pulls on the lead, so further training will be needed. On walks, he is not always very responsive, which is likely because the world still feels new and exciting to him, full of unfamiliar sights and smells.

Keeping things calm and positive will help him stay focused, listen, and continue building confidence at his own pace.

Due to his behaviour of jumping up and grabbing clothing, Dennis is looking for an experienced, child-free home with someone who has the time and commitment to continue his training.
