About Zammo
Zammo is a happy, bouncy and inquisitive young boy who has come into care through no fault of his own. His surrender was a heartbreaking decision for his family, who wanted to do what was best for him.
He loves exploring and finding out what is going on around him. He can be excitable at first, but once he is out walking he settles nicely. He is a strong boy on the lead, so he needs someone confident handling a larger dog and willing to carry on with his lead training. In his assessment he accepted a figure-8 lead. He tried to remove it a couple of times at the start, then settled and walked beautifully with it.
He has shown no aggression towards other dogs. He has seen dogs both in and outside the kennels, including dogs barking at him, and stayed calm and inquisitive without pulling or reacting. When he was introduced to a female dog who was barking, he approached with a waggy tail, then quickly lost interest and went off to explore. He has not lived with another dog before. From what we have seen, he could potentially live with a suitable spayed female, subject to successful introductions.
With people he is friendly and confident. He was happy meeting everyone at the kennels and showed no concerns around strangers. He will come over for attention, though at the moment exploring and having fun are often far more exciting. He knows how to sit nicely for treats and generally takes them gently. He will chase a ball or rope toy, but retrieving is not really his thing — once he has chased it, he is quite happy to drop it and move on to his next adventure.
He was regularly around his owner’s grandchildren, aged 10 and 6, so he is used to spending time around children. He has not actually lived with children, though, so a home with dog-savvy children aged 10 and over would be most suitable.
He can be left for a few hours and has not been known to cause any damage while alone. He has not lived with cats, so we cannot say how he would be around them. From what we have seen so far he does not appear to have a particularly strong prey drive, but his new owners should monitor this carefully while out and about, especially around cats, wildlife and other small animals.
Zammo is a lovely young boy with a playful, curious personality. He will do best in a home that can give him plenty of exercise, keep up his training and help him channel that youthful enthusiasm. With the right home, we think this gorgeous boy will make a wonderful companion.
